Individuality Vs. Fear

Why is it that as humans we have an innate desire to blend in? What spurs on the notion of human nature that we have to be all the same and the people who are not are bad?
Why does our society hate change or things that are different from them?
Why do people try to conform to society’s image?
Why is individuality bad?
Fear
is being afraid of potential dangers. Society uses fear and the tangible feeling of terror to explain why people should be the same. Society is frightened of change that influences people. For example, if society does not assume that all Muslims are terrorists, then what can they believe? This scares the community and that feeling also keeps people away from the prospect of being unique. Human desire restricts one from breaking away from society’s mold and becoming their distinctive self. It may be comforting to live in a bubble where everyone is the same but when that bubble pops because of a clash of opinions, there is a rude awakening for the people in the bubble and a fearful realization that others don’t always agree with your ideas. The idea of utopias being the perfect place to live is a rejection of the notion that people can be different. For a utopia to exist, everyone has to coexist with one another without having a conflict of opinions. There are two different natures that exist within a human that clash with one another: desire to conform and individuality. One must choose whether one fits inside the box drawn by society or if one does not. Although society may provide some relief to those who want to be accepted, they give up their sense of
uniqueness by
complying with society’s standards.
I want to urge the reader to think about this idea of fitting in or out an apply it to what’s going on in our world today- why must we be fearful of change and people that are different rather than accepting human nature and changing society to accept
Individuality.
